Following on the heels of Avenging Spirit and Battletoads & Double Dragon, Retro-Bit has just announced a new three-game collection for the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) versions of Valis! Composed of Valis: The Fantasm Soldier, Syd of Valis, and Valis III, the new collection looks to bring these classic titles back from obscurity with a limited run of each title. Individually each game is available now for pre-order through Castlemania Games and Limited Run Games for $49.99. A complete set with its own unique slipcover is also available for $144.99. Not a bad price for three titles that individually sell well over $50 a piece just for their cartridges these days. Complete is a whole other can of worms in the second-hand market. It is also worth mentioning that Retro-Bit is going to be donating a portion of each sale to the Video Game History Foundation!

But each title in the collection is going to be given the full Retro-Bit Publishing treatment which means that untranslated portions of Syd of Valis will now be available in English and missing features from Valis III are going to be restored. Each game will come in a different colored cart, with a full-color instruction booklet, and cases with reversible art. Each game will also have its own slipcover, art cards, and certificate of authenticity. Exclusive to the triple collection are the master slipcase, extra artwork, and acrylic character stand. Judging from how great the last few Retro-Bit Publishing releases have been, the Valis Collection is sure to delight!

But I have to be honest here, I have never even heard of Valis before this release announcement. Having a SNES growing up I missed out on these titles in their original run. Now owning a Genesis I don't think I would have really been that interested in them at their current prices either. But thanks to this re-release, I can get nicer conditioned and complete officially licensed versions of each game at a fraction of the cost of finding them complete. This will always remain a reason why this type of release excites me. But, pre-orders for will last from October 20 - November 27 so don't miss out!
